Lizzie's European Fall Fashion Guide

Posted by Lizzey Davey (Guest Blogger) for Copper River Bag Co on 1st Sep 2015

Fall is here, and as the weather starts changing and the colours take on red and orange hues it’s time to start thinking about warmer clothes to keep the chilly weather at bay.

As a travel writer I spend a lot of time, well, travelling, particularly around Europe and the UK. It’s no secret that the weather has a mind of its own in this region, so when it comes to fall fashion I have to be prepared for every eventuality.

Layers are the way forward, and I’m really into the worn leather look with pops of colour to give it a little lift. This year I’m taking the fall colour palette literally and adding lots of dark reds, yellows, and neutral tones to my wardrobe – things that pair up easily but are statement pieces on their own.

When I’m out and about exploring I like to be comfortable, but in a continent as cosmopolitan as Europe I want to look fashionable (particularly if, say, I’m wandering around Italy or the bustling metropolises of Spain).

So, without further ado, here are my must-have pieces for this fall!

Patterned Blouses

Blouses are so in at the moment thanks to their versatility and ability to blend in with every occasion. You can easily dress them up with a pair of heels and a nice jacket, or dress them down with a slouchy cardigan and some pumps.

This fall I’m stockpiling blouses in every pattern imaginable because they are just so easy to wear – throw on some skinny jeans, a blouse and boots and you’re good to go anywhere in the world!

I particularly love this quirky shirt from H&M which has the aura of fall about it with its pinky-red and yellow colouring.

Bold Bags

When it comes to bags I like them bold so they can make a neutral outfit stand out at a moment’s notice. This fall I’ll be toting satchel-style bags which fit in everything I need to take with me when I’m exploring a city – it has to fit my camera and a couple of notebooks for when inspiration strikes.

Copper River Bags have a great selection to choose from this fall, like this vibrant courier mail bag. I’d take it in red or dusty orange to fit in with my seasonal colour palette.

Tasselled Boots

Boots are my go-to footwear in fall because they’re comfortable and they pretty much go with anything (not to mention they come in all shapes and sizes so there’s something for every occasion!).

Last year I was into knee-high boots, but this fall I’ll be taking things down a bit with tasselled ankle boots because they are so comfy and the tassels add a little spark of fun to every outfit. When I travel I love to explore cities by foot so I can soak up everything around me and get lost in a labyrinth of side alleys, which means good footwear is essential!

I know I should probably opt for some specialist walking boots for this, but I want to keep things fashionable, hence the slipper-style tasselled booties like these from Zara.

Worn Leather iPad Case

As a freelancer I need to be able to answer emails on the go and take chunks of time to get work done whilst I’m travelling, which means grabbing a table in a café for an hour on two during my explorations.

Instead of lugging my laptop around with me I take my tablet so I can easily shoot off emails without the extra weight in my bag. This means I need a stylish case to keep it safe, particularly if I’m getting it out in a stylish café! I love Copper River Bagsfull grain leather iPad case for this, as it fits perfectly with my fall colour palette.

Quilted Jackets

Keeping warm is an important task in fall as the weather starts to turn. It’s not quite cold enough for a winter coat, so I’ll be wearing a lightweight quilted jacket instead. They are perfect for throwing over a blouse and go well with jeans and dresses.

For travelling, quilted jackets are both functional and fashionable and can fold up easily if you get too hot. I particularly love this comfortable zipped jacket from Gap for this fall.

For me this fall is all about a neutral palette with bursts of colour in my accessories. Comfort and warmth are the most important things, but I also want to keep things stylish whilst I’m wandering around amazing cities in Europe.
